A Little Longer

32 The Pharisees heard the crowd muttering these things about him, and the chief priests and Pharisees sent officers to arrest him. 33 Jesus then said, “I will be with you a little longer, and then I am going to him who sent me. 34 You will seek me and you will not find me. Where I am you cannot come.” 35 The Jews said to one another, “Where does this man intend to go that we will not find him? Does he intend to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks? 36 What does he mean by saying, ‘You will seek me and you will not find me,’ and, ‘Where I am you cannot come’?”
John 7:32-36

A Little Longer

The love of God is made manifest on the cross of Jesus. He came to his own, but his own did not know him. They expected him to be an earthly superpower, but he ends up where no one expects him. In fact, the world and the devil make fun of him. We are tempted to despise what seems weak and shameful. In the cross, Jesus’ strength is shown to you and me. He loves the world, even those in the Dispersion and even you and me. Jesus sheds his blood for the life of that world. He goes where no one else can. He takes on what no one else could. He wins the victory over our greatest enemy. It was only a little while, but the spoils are great. He has won eternal life, salvation, and the forgiveness of sins. He has made you his children. Now you will go to heaven to be with him there.
