Lifted Up

27 They did not understand that he had been speaking to them about the Father. 28 So Jesus said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father taught me. 29 And he who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him.” 30 As he was saying these things, many believed in him.

Lifted Up

Jesus sacrifices himself for the whole world. This is the will of the Father. The Son of Man must be delivered over into the hands of the Gentiles and be crucified. Jesus is lifted up on a cross, crucified for the whole world. When he is lifted up, he draws all men to himself. This is the sign above all signs. Jesus lifted up on the cross is the death of our enemies. Jesus crushes the head of the serpent on that cross. The Father sends him to do this work. The Father is pleased by his cross, for in this crucifixion you are made whole and new in Christ. Your sins are forgiven in Jesus’ death. You are a victor over death itself and no enemy has mastery over you because no enemy has mastery over your Lord Jesus Christ. To know the Son is the know the Father. All the things Jesus does are pleasing to the Father. Rejoice in the good gifts your Heavenly Father has sent for you.
