Would Not Listen

26 They said to him, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?” 27 He answered them, “I have told you already, and you would not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become his disciples?” 28 And they reviled him, saying, “You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. 29 We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man, we do not know where he comes from.”
John 9:26-29

Would Not Listen
The rebellion against God goes on in the sinner’s heart. This sinful rebellion goes deep. The religious establishment want to hear it again, but they do not want to be his disciples. They claim to be disciples of Moses. Yet, they claim nothing that Moses claimed. They quote nothing that Moses said. This Moses, like Abraham, longed to see the day of Jesus. Though they see, they stop up their ears and become deaf to Moses’s words. All Moses wrote was about this Jesus and his work. Never had anything like this happened, but we were told it would. This Jesus is the brother that is rising up in the midst of God’s people to save them. Not from slavery to Pharoah, but to sin and death. This is the God become man that dies so that you will not. This is the God Man that suffers your punishment so that you will not. To be a disciple of Jesus is to be a disciple of Moses. This is the Jesus that opens our eyes and fills us with the light of his resurrection. We are his own people. His love comes down from heaven and he claims us as his own.
