The Voice That Leads Through the Cross

4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5 A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” 6 This figure of speech Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.
John 10:4-6

The Voice That Leads Through the Cross
Jesus speaks of His sheep hearing His voice and following Him because they know it. In this simple image, He reveals something profound: faith is not sight, but hearing. The sheep do not follow because they see where the Shepherd leads, but because they trust His voice. This voice calls us through the Word, where Christ crucified is proclaimed. The Good Shepherd’s voice is not one of empty promise or worldly success, but of the cross, forgiveness, and resurrection. Many voices today try to lead us elsewhere, to self-made paths of comfort or control, but only the voice that passed through death for us can truly lead to life. To follow Jesus, then, is to walk in the way of His cross, trusting that the Shepherd who laid down His life will also raise us up to eternal safety.
