All Day Long

19 But I ask, did Israel not understand? First Moses says, “I will make you jealous of those who are not a nation; with a foolish nation I will make you angry.” 20 Then Isaiah is so bold as to say,  “I have been found by those who did not seek me; I have shown myself to those who did not ask for me.” 21 But of Israel he says, “All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.”
Romans 10:19-21

All Day Long

The Lord, your God, is long-suffering. He continually shows mercy and grace to his people. He holds out his hands, full of gifts for a disobedient and contrary people. He holds out his hand to the sinner and that sinner is you and me. It is only by the power of the Lord's work among us that we can be changed from fool to wise. So many times in the Scriptures we are reminded that the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord. That fear of the Lord can only be restored by the blood of Jesus washed over you. You get the image of this great and merciful God in your Baptism. You are a Baptized child of God. He claims you. He takes out your heart of stone and gives you his Holy Spirit to dwell with you forever. Thanks be to God for in him we are no longer fools.
