The Victory of the Cross

36 “And the king shall do as he wills. He shall exalt himself and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak astonishing things against the God of gods. He shall prosper till the indignation is accomplished; for what is decreed shall be done.
Daniel 11:36

The Victory of the Cross
The king in Daniel exalts himself above every god and speaks astonishing things against the true God. This verse points beyond any earthly ruler to the final Antichrist, who sets himself against Christ and His Church. Yet, even this blasphemous arrogance is under God’s sovereign control, “he shall prosper till the indignation is accomplished.” The Lord sets the boundaries even for evil. The Cross of Christ stands as the great contradiction to the Antichrist’s pride. While the enemy boasts in self-glory, Christ humbles Himself unto death. While the Antichrist demands worship, Christ gives Himself for sinners. In Jesus, God answers the arrogance of evil with mercy, grace, and truth. Take heart, evil has its time, but the Lamb who was slain has conquered. The One who bore our sin on the cross reigns forever. His Word, not the lies of the arrogant, will stand in the end.
