Ruined
17 Thus says the Lord of hosts:
“Consider, and call for the mourning women to come;
send for the skillful women to come;
18 let them make haste and raise a wailing over us,
that our eyes may run down with tears
and our eyelids flow with water.
19 For a sound of wailing is heard from Zion:
‘How we are ruined!
We are utterly shamed,
because we have left the land,
because they have cast down our dwellings.’”
Jeremiah 9:17-19

Ruined
Our sin is a cause for weeping. We have rebelled against our God and despised his gifts. Our thoughts, words, and deeds have brought ruin to us. We weep over the destruction we have caused. There is One other who weeps for us. He is Christ the Lord. He knows that we cannot rebuild. He knows that we will not return to the Lord on our own. We must be sought out and rescued. We must be found and made new. Jesus goes to the cross to die for you and me. He offers up his life so that our life would be spared. Jesus' love for you is great. He offers up his life and dies in disgrace to have you back. What we have ruined, God has made new in Jesus. Our shame is washed away in the blood of Jesus. He rises to life again to share it with you. Now he builds dwellings in heaven for you. Thanks be to God.
