Known by Their Fruits

15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. 18 A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.

Known by Their Fruits
Jesus warns His Church against false prophets, who come in appealing disguises but lead souls away from the truth. Their words may sound religious, their promises comforting, and their outward lives impressive. Yet appearances do not reveal what lies within. The fruit of a teacher’s ministry must be examined in light of God’s Word. We do not judge teaching by popularity, charisma, or worldly success, but by whether it faithfully confesses Christ and His saving work. This warning also calls us to repentance. Our own fruits often reveal sinful hearts in need of mercy. We cannot make ourselves good trees through our works. Only Christ can rescue us from sin and make us His own. At the cross, Jesus bore the judgment our sins deserved. Rooted in His forgiveness, we receive life that bears fruits of faith, love, and service to our neighbor. Lord, keep us in Your truth.
