The Annunciation of Our Lord
Bernard says concerning the faith of the Virgin Mary when it had been announced to her by the angel that she would be the mother of Christ that the strength of faith of the Virgin who could believe the words of the angel was no less a miracle than the incarnation of the Word itself. Therefore the greatest things in the histories of the saints are the words which God speaks with the saints. Although their virtues and deeds should be praised . . . yet they, like the feet, should be put in the lowest place. But the head in the life of the saints is the speaking of God itself.
