In The Garden
25 Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. So they said to him, “You also are not one of his disciples, are you?” He denied it and said, “I am not.” 26 One of the servants of the high priest, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, “Did I not see you in the garden with him?” 27 Peter again denied it, and at once a rooster crowed.

In The Garden
The human nature wants to slide past the world's radar. It wants to pick and choose what it keeps and what it rejects from the world's view. It thinks that it can deny Jesus to the world and believe in him nonetheless. Jesus calls us to total devotion. He calls us to deny the world in its entirety. He calls us to rest ourselves completely in his arms. So he must give us his Holy Spirit. This Spirit calls us with Jesus' Gospel and enlighten and strengthen us in this fight. So he does. This is the Spirit that plants faith in your heart that is bold. You don't come up with this faith. Jesus gives it to you. The Spirit plants it and nourishes it. It is sustained by the Word of God alone and the Sacraments given by our Lord. Jesus comes to you and he calls you by name. You are his. Do not fear the world. Yes, they will see you with Jesus. You are in the garden with him. Jesus has overcome the world. He has you in his hand.
