Every Jar
12 “You shall speak to them this word: ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, “Every jar shall be filled with wine.”’ And they will say to you, ‘Do we not indeed know that every jar will be filled with wine?’ 13 Then you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will fill with drunkenness all the inhabitants of this land: the kings who sit on David’s throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 14 And I will dash them one against another, fathers and sons together, declares the Lord. I will not pity or spare or have compassion, that I should not destroy them.’”

Every Jar
The Lord dashes every jar. It is not our work, but Christ's work that saves us. We will all be brought to destruction. God's Law must do this. The power of sin is the Law. The Law accuses and crushes and it kills. As the Lord crushes, he also makes new. As he empties, he also fills up. So we have been crushed. We have been made new in the flesh and blood of Jesus. Jesus keeps the Law. Jesus takes on the punishment and pays the price for our sin. He drinks the cup his Father gives him to drink. He drinks the whole cup. Now, we rejoice in his life. We rejoice in his gifts to us. We have been made new in Jesus and have been clothed in our Lord. His righteousness is our righteousness. His life is our life. His death is our death. The debt is paid and we live with him forever.
