18 “But even in those days, declares the Lord, I will not make a full end of you. 19 And when your people say, ‘Why has the Lord our God done all these things to us?’ you shall say to them, ‘As you have forsaken me and served foreign gods in your land, so you shall serve foreigners in a land that is not yours.’”

A Remnant
The Lord God preserves and keeps alive for himself. In the midst of Judah's rebellion, he does not make a full end of them. He does send them into captivity. The Lord does discipline his people. The Law accuses and it kills. The Lord preserves you with his Holy Spirit. The Means of Grace make you new and forgive that which rebelled. The Old Adam must daily drown and die. The New Man must daily arise in righteousness and purity forever. The Lord remains with you and he does not forsake you. Jesus is forsaken. You are not. Jesus dies the death of God's wrath. You will not. Jesus lives and so will you.
