Wounded, Yet Not Forsaken

19          Woe is me because of my hurt!
My wound is grievous.
                        But I said, “Truly this is an affliction,
and I must bear it.”
            20          My tent is destroyed,
and all my cords are broken;
                        my children have gone from me,
and they are not;
                        there is no one to spread my tent again
and to set up my curtains.
            21          For the shepherds are stupid
and do not inquire of the Lord;
                        therefore they have not prospered,
and all their flock is scattered.

Jeremiah 10:19-21

Wounded, Yet Not Forsaken
There is a raw honesty in Jeremiah’s lament. The prophet speaks as one wounded beyond healing, bearing the weight of a people scattered and shepherds who have failed them. This suffering is not merely personal; it reflects the devastation brought by false leadership and rejection of the Lord’s Word. When shepherds seek themselves instead of the Lord, the flock is scattered. Yet this cry of grief does not fall into emptiness. It echoes forward to Christ, the true Shepherd, who takes upon Himself the wound of His people. On the cross, He bears not only our sin but also the failure of all false shepherds. He is struck so that the sheep may be gathered. In our own sorrow and the brokenness of the Church, we are not abandoned. The crucified Christ gathers, heals, and restores. Our wounds find their answer in His.
