My Lord and My God

26 Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” 28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
John 20:26-29

My Lord and My God
The stubbornness of the human heart refuses to believe. Thomas missed out on Jesus original resurrected visit to the disciples. He refused to believe Jesus' Word. Our stubborn hearts also refuse to believe. However, Jesus will not leave us to our own hearts. He comes to where we are. He calls us with this saving Word and bids us come to him and hear him and believe. The Lord established the means of grace that we would receive him. By the work of his Holy Spirit, the gifts of his cross and the power of his resurrection are showered upon us, put inside of us, and wrapped around us. The response from the heart that has been made alive in Jesus is the same as Thomas, "My Lord and My God." Thanks be to God that he comes back for us.
