Scattered

12 Who is the man so wise that he can understand this? To whom has the mouth of the Lord spoken, that he may declare it? Why is the land ruined and laid waste like a wilderness, so that no one passes through? 13 And the Lord says: “Because they have forsaken my law that I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice or walked in accord with it, 14 but have stubbornly followed their own hearts and have gone after the Baals, as their fathers taught them. 15 Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will feed this people with bitter food, and give them poisonous water to drink. 16 I will scatter them among the nations whom neither they nor their fathers have known, and I will send the sword after them, until I have consumed them.”
Jeremiah 9:12-16

Scattered
Man depends upon his own strength instead of depending fulling on God. Man looks inward instead of looking to the Lord for everything he needs in this body and life. Like the people at the Tower of Babel, we want to make a name for ourselves. Like the people at the Tower of Babel, God scatters and stops the construction that we might fix our eyes on him instead. Unless the Lord build the house, it is built in vain. Only in Christ are the scattered brought near again. So, God sends his Son into our flesh to rescue and make new. He is born under the Law in order to save everyone under the Law. He keeps the commandments of God perfectly and suffers the punishment of our rebellion completely. When Jesus is crucified, he draws the scattered, he draws all men to himself. We rejoice in his good gifts and his love that never ends.
