Forgotten

29 “Why do you contend with me?
You have all transgressed against me,
declares the Lord.
30 In vain have I struck your children;
they took no correction;
your own sword devoured your prophets
like a ravening lion.
31 And you, O generation, behold the word of the Lord.
Have I been a wilderness to Israel,
or a land of thick darkness?
Why then do my people say, ‘We are free,
we will come no more to you’?
32 Can a virgin forget her ornaments,
or a bride her attire?
Yet my people have forgotten me
days without number.

Jeremiah 2:29-32

Forgotten
Man has shattered his ability to naturally fear, love, and trust in God above all things. It comes only as we are lead by the Holy Spirit. Even in the face of great signs and wonders, the human heart forgets God and runs after pleasures and possessions. We kneel down at the altars of the world and forsake the Word of the living God. Jeremiah reminds us that even in the face of disciple and correction, we look the other way. Something drastic must happen for us to be saved. So, God gives no sign except the sign of Jonah. He sends his Son to the cross to die and be buried in the earth for three days. It is only by the blood of the Son of God that God can restore his image in our heart. On that third day, Jesus rises again and gives that life to you and me. We are transformed in Jesus. We are made new in his blood. We share in his life. The Holy Spirit calls us with this Word and enlightens us with his gifts. In the Holy Spirit's work, we remember.
