Blessed Be the Name of the Lord
The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. If you have ever been to a graveside funeral you most likely have heard these words spoken as the service ends and the casket is lowered. They are solemn words spoken at a solemn occasion. We are reminded once again that all which we have, including our own lives are gifts. Our loving Father gives us this life here on earth for but a short time and then we are called home. This is why Job can say these words after he receives the news of all his devastating losses. He knows that even in the midst of tragedy God does not abandon His children. We too can take comfort in these words as well, as we go through our own trials and tribulations. Like Job, we fall to our knees not to curse God, but to bless Him, and in doing so, the devil is once again foiled. Our only true possession is godliness, which cannot be taken away even by death because it comes from the Father.
