No Rest for the Wicked

Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them to present himself before the LORD. And the LORD said to Satan, “From where have you come?” Satan answered the LORD and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.” And the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil? He still holds fast his integrity, although you incited me against him to destroy him without reason.”

No Rest for the Wicked
The old saying, “There is no rest for the wicked” in today’s world means that one must continue to work even when they are tired. But when we read the beginning of chapter 2 of Job we could apply it here to the devil.  He never tires of trying to lead God’s people into sin and despair.  After inflicting every sort of wickedness and destruction onto Job, Job still remains faithful to God. Therefore, the devil will try another approach as we will see.  He does not ever stop. He is relentless and single minded towards his goal of destroying faith. So what ae we to do?  The only thing we can do, cling to Christ! Set out hearts to the things from above.  Through faith continue to immerse yourself in God’s Word and partake in His Sacraments.  Remember your Baptism, and that God chose you to be His child.  And what God holds in His hands, no devil or evil can pry away.  The wicked may not have rest, but for the child of God, we rest secured in the arms of our loving Father.
