Loathsome Appearance
So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD and struck Job with loathsome sores from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. And he took a piece of broken pottery with which to scrape himself while he sat in the ashes.

Loathsome Appearance
We are a culture obsessed with looks. We spend billions of dollars a year to maintain a youthful appearance, or to modify ourselves to fit societies idea of the beautiful. We are repulsed so often by those who have deformities or outwardly manifested diseases. We want to look perfect, and we want other to look perfect. And in all of this obsessing over looks we too often forget that all of us are created in the image of God. No matter our outward appearance, God loved you enough to give you life. Job’s appearance was repulsive to others and to himself. Yet God did not look away. He knew Job because He had created him in his own image, just as He created you. The image of God in us was destroyed by sin yet has been partially restored through Christ. And on judgement day will be fully restored. It is because of Christ, whose “appearance was so marred, beyond human semblance…” so that “He had no form or majesty that we should look at Him” (Isiah 52:14; 53:2) that you are made beautiful in the sight of God.
