Perish Forever

Between morning and evening they are beaten to pieces; they perish forever without anyone regarding it.
Job 4:20

Perish Forever
Eliphaz, still convinced Job and his own sins have caused the calamities which beset him, doubles down and states Job is in danger of perishing forever because he will not recognize his sin and repent.  It is true, consistent unrepentant sin separates us from God, but we know that God is not punishing Job in this way.  This should give all peoples of faith great comfort to know this truth.  Yes, sin does have temporal and eternal consequences, but not in the way Eliphaz imagines, or how many false religions proclaim.  The greatest consequence of sin is death, but not our own, rather the death of God in Christ.  Because God the Father knew there would be no way for us to ever reconcile with Him and atone for our sins, He did what only God could do.  He sent His Son to die in our place. He sent Christ to take upon Himself the sins of the world, yours mine, and everyone who has ever existed or ever will exist.  Jesus took your sins and gave you His righteousness.  And on a desolate hill in Palestine, the punishment for your sins perished forever.  You were freed to be children of God and your relationship with Him was restored.  And in faith, given and sustained by the Holy Spirit, through the Word and Sacraments, you shall live forever.
