Tent-Cord
Is not their tent-cord plucked up within them, do they not die, and that without wisdom?
Job 4:21

Tent-Cord
If you have ever been camping you know what a hassle it can be to set up a tent. The poles have to be unfolded and placed in the right position, the canvas has to be stretched just right, and then it all has to be anchored perfectly with the tent-cords. It takes quite a bit of time and patience. Yet as difficult as it is to set up, it is just as easy to take down. One pull on the tent-cord and the whole thing collapses. Life can often seem this way. We strive and struggle to make our lives better, to set things up for ourselves and our families, and just when we think it is all set up perfectly, something or someone comes along and pulls the cord and our lives come crashing down. Whether it be the loss of a job, a cancer diagnoses, or the death of a loved one, any number of calamities can bring our tents down. And it is in times such as these when we need true compassion, understanding, and solace. If we turn inward towards ourselves or outward to the world, we will never truly find this. It is only when we turn to the cross and the comfort found there that we are able to have true peace. As Peter says, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (Matthew 17:4) We want to be where Jesus is. We want to be in God’s comfort. And our gracious Father understand this and promises us so much more than life in a tent.
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
