Pardon Me

Why do you not pardon my transgression and take away my iniquity? For now I shall lie in the earth; you will seek me, but I shall not be.”
Job 7:21

Pardon Me
Job ends his questioning of God by begging His pardon.  Why does God not offer relief?  Why must I suffer so, Job wonders.  Job is sincere, showing a faith which will ultimately see Him through all of this suffering, for even a little faith is still a saving faith.  We do well to remember this.  Though the devil, the world, and our own sinful flesh will continue to attack us, it is but for a while, when compared to an eternity with God.  We are brought through the crucible of temptation and purified in the fire.  Satan has no claim upon us as his sulfur and soot were washed away in the waters of holy Baptism and God’s name was placed upon our hearts.  Sanctified at His altar and washed clean in the blood of the Lamb we are indeed pardoned.  We therefore trust in His promise of life and salvation through Christ, and confidently believe the words we sing,

When through fiery trials your pathway will lie,
My grace, all sufficient, will be your supply;
The flame will not hurt you; I only design
Your dross to consume, and your gold to refine.
