The Spider’s Web

His confidence is severed, and his trust is a spider’s web. He leans against his house, but it does not stand; he lays hold of it, but it does not endure.
Job 8:14-15

The Spider’s Web
The spider’s web is a fragile structure, not meant to last forever. One would be foolish to trust in the durability of such a structure.  So is the man whose confidence is placed in worldly things.  The deaf and mute idols which we make can do nothing for us, yet the more we surround ourselves with them the more entangled we become, until eventually we are completely trapped unable to free ourselves from their web.  So is the fate of far too many of God’s people.  Putting their trust in idols and leaning on their own understanding, the house they have build collapses and does not stand.  Thankfully though we have a God which gives us faith to “fear, love, and trust in Him above all things.”  So that our trust is not in the perishable things of this world, but in the eternal promise of Christ’s victory over sin, death, and the devil.  Our faith grasps hold of Christ and His promise of salvation, and in doing so breaks us free from the web of destruction laid out by Satan and his minions. And once free in Christ, are welcomed into our Father’s heavenly home where there are many rooms prepared for us (John 14:2).
