Proverbs of Ashes
He will surely rebuke you if in secret you show partiality. Will not his majesty terrify you, and the dread of him fall upon you? Your maxims are proverbs of ashes; your defenses are defenses of clay.

Proverbs of Ashes
There are many false beliefs which infect many churches today, decision theology, the prosperity gospel, invocation of the saints and more. They are not new; they have been around since the fall in one form or another. The devil need not come up with new tactics for the old ones still work. Job’s friends are guilty of advocating a works righteousness and salvation through one’s own merits. Job is not buying it. He knows he cannot save himself but needs God to be His Savior. We have the benefit of having God’s fully revealed Word which confirms this. So that when these false beliefs confront us, they do not stand. As proverbs of ashes these false and harmful ideas are blown away in the truth of God’s Word. Like clay jar these dangerous beliefs shatter when they hit the Cornerstone of true faith. For the rock of our salvation, the Holy Spirit given faith in Christ Jesus, comforts our troubled souls.
