Reply to Me

Only grant me two things, then I will not hide myself from your face: withdraw your hand far from me, and let not dread of you terrify me. Then call, and I will answer; or let me speak, and you reply to me. How many are my iniquities and my sins? Make me know my transgression and my sin. Why do you hide your face and count me as your enemy?

Reply to Me
Job asks God for two things, that He not be hidden from God face nor that God would withdraw His hand from him.  Job is asking that God not separate Himself from Job, which is to say that He not turn from him and also that God’s grace and mercy continue to be with him.  Job desires the comforting and protecting hand of God to be upon him.  If God would do these things, then Job would not fear speaking with God. And what’s more, Job would welcome God’s reply. Job desperately wants to talk with God and hear His reason for Job’s condition.  He wants God to explain why he is suffering so.  How blessed are we that we do not have to long for this.  We can approach God without fear or trepidation knowing He hears and answers our prayers.  What a blessing it is that we have God’s Word which speaks its soothing balm of forgiveness and salvation in Christ.  God has spoken to us and He has told us just how far He was willing to go to have us reconciled to Him. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him” (John 3:16-17). And our reply? Alleluia and Amen!
