Like A Flower

Man who is born of a woman is few of days and full of trouble. He comes out like a flower and withers; he flees like a shadow and continues not. And do you open your eyes on such a one and bring me into judgment with you?
Job 14:1-3

Like A Flower
Job laments the brevity of life and the seemingly constant struggle that it is.  He compares it to a flower which blooms beautifully but quickly withers and is blown away. And in his reflecting upon the shortness of life Job wonders why God would even care to concern Himself with our brief existence here on earth. Christ answers this for us in Matthew 6 when He has us “consider the lilies of the field” which are beautifully adorned but quickly fade away. Jesus’ point is that if God cares for even the smallest things in His creation, such as the lilies of the field, how much more does He care for you.  Yes, life is short, and it can be full of unhappy moments, but no matter the length of days we are gifted, God is there with His faithful.  He provides for them, He protects them, and above all else, He forgives them.  And lest we forget, though our earthly lives may be short, we do in fact live forever. For the faithful, this means an eternity with God. So do not despair, and “do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself” (Matthew 6:34). We have a God who cares even for the flowers, how much greater love does He have for us!
