Withhold Nothing

If I have withheld anything that the poor desired, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail, or have eaten my morsel alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it (for from my youth the fatherless grew up with me as with a father, and from my mother’s womb I guided the widow), if I have seen anyone perish for lack of clothing, or the needy without covering, if his body has not blessed me, and if he was not warmed with the fleece of my sheep, if I have raised my hand against the fatherless, because I saw my help in the gate, then let my shoulder blade fall from my shoulder, and let my arm be broken from its socket. For I was in terror of calamity from God, and I could not have faced his majesty.

Withhold Nothing
Job recounts his treatment of the poor and hungry, the widowed and the fatherless. He felt deep care and compassion for them and made sure that they were looked after. He did not abandon them to their fate but intervened with the abundance which God had given him.  In God’s perfect Law, He desires us to love Him and to love our neighbor (Matthew 22:37-40). Yet in our fallen state we too frequently do neither.  And the failure to love our neighbor starts with our failure to love God.  We cannot love our fellow man and hate God at the same time (1 John 4:21). God in His boundless love for us sent Christ to die in our place to not only atone for our sins and reconcile us to the Father, but also to show us what love for one another looks like.  Christ did not hold anything back from us. He gave all He had to ensure we would be saved.  His blood has set us free to love one another as He loved us. “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). The rich blessings God has given us are to be shared. They are to be given to all those in need.  And the greatest of all these blessings is Christ Jesus. We are to share His Word with all those God places in our lives. We are to withhold nothing.
