True Insight
Men of understanding will say to me, and the wise man who hears me will say: ‘Job speaks without knowledge; his words are without insight.’ Would that Job were tried to the end, because he answers like wicked men. For he adds rebellion to his sin; he claps his hands among us and multiplies his words against God.

True Insight
It is a bit ironic that Elihu accuses Job of not having insight when he himself does not know the true reason behind Job’s suffering. Yet this is what we sinful humans too often do. We jump to conclusions before hearing all the facts. We make judgements based on faulty and erroneous information. We condemn the innocent because we care not of truth, but of being right. The truth is, and Elihu should have known this, is that all of us Elihu, Job, you, me, we are all sinners. We all lack insight into the wisdom of God because we rely on the wisdom of men, of ourselves. We think ourselves equal to God. But true insight would remind us that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). With this true knowledge we can face the reality that we are not superior in our understanding when we rely on ourselves. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6). God tells us to trust in Him for truth, “the Lord will give you understanding in everything” (2 Timothy 2:7). For God is truth and it is only through Him that our eyes will be opened to His truth. The cross of Christ reveals what He has taught us, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him” (John 14:6-7).
