My Opinion

They are dismayed; they answer no more; they have not a word to say. And shall I wait, because they do not speak, because they stand there, and answer no more? I also will answer with my share; I also will declare my opinion.
Job 32:15–17

My Opinion
We all have opinions. We all want those opinions to be heard and agreed to.  We have a hard time hearing contrary opinions, especially in today’s world where we can be fed a steady diet of opinions which agree with ours, never having to suffer the opinions of those whom we disagree with. Elihu now has come to his breaking point. In his youth he is no longer able to hold his tongue and so must offer his insight into Job’s condition in order not just to refute the three friends but also to display his own wisdom.  How quickly we become blinded by our own sense of truth, so that we ignore the truth.  God’s Word points us to the reason for suffering (Romans 5:12) yet we don’t want to hear it. Ignoring God’s Word, we are quick to quote form the book of 1st Opinions.  We place our wisdom above God’s and in doing so succumb to the same fate as our first parents in the Garden.  We believe ourselves equals with God and our truth to be the truth. Still God’s love over comes. When we lay aside our pride and ambition and humble ourselves at the foot of the cross, we come to know not God’s opinion, but His truth. That Christ is “the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through [Him]” (John 14:6).  In this knowledge we are freed from the shifting sands of opinions put forth by the world, the devils, and our own sinful flesh. Set free by His Word, we remain in it, for “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31-32).
