To Look Upon the Light

He sings before men and says: ‘I sinned and perverted what was right, and it was not repaid to me. He has redeemed my soul from going down into the pit, and my life shall look upon the light.’
Job 33:27–28

To Look Upon the Light
We are sinful beings.  We are conceived with original sin as part of who we are, an unwanted inheritance from our first parents.  We commit actual sins throughout our lives.  We can truthfully say, “I sinned and perverted what was right.” But as people of faith, we also know that there is a cure for our sins.  It is found in God’s forgiveness. We look to the cross of Christ and see the redemption from the pit.  We see the price which had to be paid to allow us to “look upon the light.” For the Light of the World, Jesus Christ, was lifted up on the cross to pay for our sins. So that in His dying we might have reconciliation as our sins are atoned for. And this blessed new reality which the forgiven sinner finds themselves in is not a long hoped for future reality but exists now. We are forgiven now, we are part of God’s family now, we are His children now.  We enjoy the benefits of God’s grace in our lives today.  Yes, there is still suffering and pain, and we will continue to fail and sin, but the forgiveness is given in Christ.  We are new creations because of what He did for us. We are brought out of the darkness which sin, death, and the devil would have us dwell in. And out of the darkness we find comfort and blessing in the light of Christ.
