The Case Before Him

How much less when you say that you do not see him, that the case is before him, and you are waiting for him! And now, because his anger does not punish, and he does not take much note of transgression, Job opens his mouth in empty talk; he multiplies words without knowledge.
Job 35:14–16

The Case Before Him
Job has lamented that God will not give him an audience so that he may plead his case. Elihu here reminds Job, and us, that just because we don’t see Him does not mean that God is not there or does not hear our pleas.  God knows our sorrow and our struggles.  God know what we need and gives to us in His good time what we need.  And most often in these cases where we feel God is not listening, what we need is patience.  We need to be reminded that God works at His pace and on this schedule.  He does not withhold from us His good gift for cruel reasons. He desires us to turn to Him in all situations and to draw ever closer to Him.  He has given us Jesus to cling to. He has answered our prayers through the blood of the Lamb.  Our case before God was heard and though we are guilty and deserve the severest of punishments, God accepted Jesus’ payment on our behalf. His atonement has reconciled us to the Father.  Our case was settled on the cross and in the empty tomb.
