Your Table is Set

He delivers the afflicted by their affliction and opens their ear by adversity. He also allured you out of distress into a broad place where there was no cramping, and what was set on your table was full of fatness.
Job 36:15–16

Your Table is Set
Even in the darkest of times the Christian is comforted with the knowledge that God is with them.  That the adversity we face brings us closer to Him. Psalm 23 gives us the imagery of our Good Shepherd leading us to a safe place filled with green pastures and still waters.  The broad place where our Shepherd can survey the landscape and protect against all dangers.  In the same psalm we are then told that our cup overflows with an abundance of God’s blessings.  And though this heavenly banquet is not fully realized here in this broken world we do receive a foretaste of these things to come.  As we gather together in worship God’s Word brings comfort in forgiveness. God’s Word shows us our Savior, Christ Jesus.  God’s Word invites us to the font as the Hoy Spirit pours out faith upon us. A promise we carry with us and return to daily.  God’s Word invites us to His altar to receive our Savior in His true body and blood for the forgiveness of our sins.  His table is set for us, and the choice pieces are laid on our plates. We are invited into the wedding feast of the Lamb which has no end (Revelation 19:6-9).
