Snow

After it his voice roars; he thunders with his majestic voice, and he does not restrain the lightnings when his voice is heard. God thunders wondrously with his voice; he does great things that we cannot comprehend. For to the snow he says, ‘Fall on the earth,’ likewise to the downpour, his mighty downpour. He seals up the hand of every man, that all men whom he made may know it.

Snow

As Elihu speaks of God’s power and might, he speaks of His commanding of the elements.  Snow has a way of shutting things down, especially if you live in an area that does not typically get snow.  The streets are closed, school is canceled, and families are huddled inside their homes to stay warm.  And in these moments, it would be wise for us to recognize what God does for us.  When the world around us shuts down, we have an opportunity to turn to God. As “He seals up the hand of every man,” we are given a chance to stop for a second and reflect upon all the blessings we have been given.  We can take these times to grow closer to God through our devotional lives.  No longer under the watchful eye of our schedules, we can simply stop and be in God’s Word. We can look to the cross of Christ and know our salvation has been won.  Whether it is a snowstorm or some other natural phenomenon that presents us the opportunity to be in the Word, or if it is an intentional moment we have built into our schedules, we do well to take the time and not neglect God and His blessings.
