Loosed the Bonds

Who has let the wild donkey go free? Who has loosed the bonds of the swift donkey, to whom I have given the arid plain for his home and the salt land for his dwelling place?
Job 39:5–6

Loosed the Bonds
As God continues to question Job about his knowledge of the world he asks about the wild donkeys. Wild donkeys are not the same as the ones Job had lost at the beginning of the book (1:3). Those were domesticated donkeys used for work and food.  They were tame and could be handled. Contrary to those donkeys, the wild donkey is almost impossible to catch and even harder to domesticate. They have the freedom that many dream of. They do not suffer the bonds of servitude and are free to roam when they please. God has gifted this to them, and their bonds are loosed.  We too desire freedom from our bonds as well. We are shackled to sin, death, and the devil. They weigh on us as we fight against them in vain.  But just as God freed the wild donkey so too has He freed us. Through Christ, our bonds of slavery to sin, death, and the devil are destroyed. Christ’s death and resurrection destroyed those chains and we are now free to live a life in Him. No longer constrained by the weight of sin, we are freed to love God. No longer ensnared by the devil, we are free to love our neighbor. No longer encumbered by the fear of death, we are free to live for Christ. Our bonds are loosed and we live in the truth of the Gospel.
