Humbly Submit
Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

Humbly Submit
One of the hardest things for us to do when we are young, or at any age for that matter, is to humble ourselves before others. Pride takes root at an early age and is difficult to uproot. The world, the devil, and our own sinful flesh convince us that no one can tell us what to do and we know what is best. This plague of pride has shattered untold numbers of families as parents and children find it impossible to get along on account of foolish pride. Yet as Christians we are told to submit ourselves to those who are older and in authority. The Fourth Commandment instructs us to do the same as we honor our father and mother. And when we do so the fissures caused by unremorseful pride can be avoided. Whether you had parents who taught you humility or not, we can all look towards our Savior Jesus Christ as an example. He humbled Himself to the point of death on a cross so that the will of his Father and ours might be done. Therefore, we submit to Christ and act in humility towards one another as God’s grace abounds.
