Protect the Righteous

Behold, a day is coming for the Lord, when the spoil taken from you will be divided in your midst. 2 For I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city shall be taken and the houses plundered and the women raped. Half of the city shall go out into exile, but the rest of the people shall not be cut off from the city. 3 Then the Lord will go out and fight against those nations as when he fights on a day of battle. 4 On that day his feet shall stand on the Mount of Olives that lies before Jerusalem on the east, and the Mount of Olives shall be split in two from east to west by a very wide valley, so that one half of the Mount shall move northward, and the other half southward. 5 And you shall flee to the valley of my mountains, for the valley of the mountains shall reach to Azal. And you shall flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the Lord my God will come, and all the holy ones with him. Zechariah 14:1-5

Protect the Righteous
The world hates the Christian. The world hates the Church and everything that has to do with Jesus. It rises up against her and does whatever she pleases to her. The atrocities that the world thinks up and commits against God’s people are dark and devastating. You hear about it every day. The enemies of God have set themselves against God and his gifts. They attack you and your family. They attack marriage. They attack God’s gift of sexuality. They attack children. Satan wants the children. Jesus, the Lord of heaven and earth, fights for us. The One who created the heavens and the earth, becomes part of the creation to save it. He stands on the Mount of Olives and by his great power he will provide for you safety in his valley. There he stands, outside of Jerusalem, to die on the cross. What seems so insignificant and weak is really the most powerful event in the history of the world. What boasted of such strength for so long is defeated there at the cross. Death is robbed of its power and transformed into a gateway to Jesus’ presence. Death is made into a sleep. If there is any place that is our protection and our hope and joy, it is the valley under the cross of Jesus. As we continue to be attacked by Satan and his minions, as temptations continue to come, fix your eyes on the cross of Jesus. The will of the Father is complete in this Jesus. You are made new in the death of Jesus. You are justified by the resurrection of Jesus. That makes you his holy ones. He promises to take you with him. Thanks be to God.
