Who am I?
Now it happened that as he was praying alone, the disciples were with him. And he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” And they answered, “John the Baptist. But others say, Elijah, and others, that one of the prophets of old has risen.” Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter answered, “The Christ of God.”

Who am I?
Who is Jesus? We live in a day and age where this question is controversial. Many do not want to recognize that Jesus is our Lord. Blinded by their own lack of faith and drowning in their own sin, many people today refuse the only salvation which exists. This is no different from the time Jesus walked this earth. People have always denied who He is, and those who confess the truth are looked at as strange or dangerous. For the first time in Luke’s Gospel, Peter makes a clear confession of Jesus as the Messiah, and in the end, would die for those words rather than deny them. All of our words and actions should similarly confess the One who is the only life and hope of the world, though we often fail in this regard. Yet when we fail, indeed even when we deny our Lord, Jesus treats us just as He did Peter. He faithfully calls us to repent, and He forgives our weaknesses. May the Lord continue to grant us grace to believe His promise that if we confess Him before men, He will confess us before the Father in heaven.
