Salt
“Salt is good, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is of no use either for the soil or for the manure pile. It is thrown away. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
Luke 14:34–35

Salt
Salt is a most important mineral. We have to have it to survive, but too much can harm us. It acts as a preservative to keep foods from spoiling and adds taste to bland dishes. Salt has so many important uses. But what if the salt loses its saltness? What good is it then? It just becomes a useless rock, not worth anything. Our Lord tells us in the Gospel of Matthew, that we are “the salt of the earth,” purifying and seasoning it because Christ is within us. God’s Word allows His people to preserve the order of the world. Society is held together as long as the salt is uncorrupted. We are witnessing the results of a world in which the salt has lost its taste. The Word has been altered and watered down to soothe itching ears by faithless preachers and teachers not worth their salt. Yet when God desires for us to be free from suffering even in the middle of a world that hates us, we enjoy a wonderful peace, as His Word continues to preserve us as Christ makes us Christians through the Word.
