A Denial

“Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.” Peter said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death.” Jesus said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow this day, until you deny three times that you know me.”
Luke 22:31–34

A Denial
We have a knack for thinking too highly of ourselves. We like to envision ourselves amongst the stalwart followers of Jesus and that if we were alive in those days we would have been bold witnesses to the truth of Christ Jesus. How convenient we forget this when faced with going to church after a late night, or to a midweek service after a long day. With no persecution and no threat of harm today, we deny our Lord with our actions. Jesus warns a self-confident Peter, as He warns us as well, that he will deny his Lord, but also assures him, and us, of His intercession. “Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.” Jesus, who interceded for Peter, is even now at the right hand of God interceding for us. May our Lord Jesus continue to pray for us, that our faith in Him would ever remain steadfast to the end.
