The Gospel Light

For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you—that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine. I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that I have often intended to come to you (but thus far have been prevented), in order that I may reap some harvest among you as well as among the rest of the Gentiles. I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish. So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.
Romans 1:11-15

The Gospel Light
If you have spent any time at church as a youngster, you no doubt know the favorite song of Sunday schools across the land: This Little Gospel Light of Mine. Children have been singing it for decades, and no doubt will continue to do so until Jesus comes back. It reminds us that the gift of the Gospel is not something we hoard and keep to ourselves. That is what the devil wants us to do. To sit on the Good News of Christ crucified and to not plant those seeds of faith in others. We are to be bold in our proclamation of the Gospel in all the situations God places us. Likewise, Paul was sent to the Greeks and barbarians, to the wise and foolish, to speak this truth. Today, we may be tempted to keep the Gospel to ourselves or limit it to people who are like us. However, Jesus did not limit His work. He redeemed the whole world, even barbarians and fools like us. He commissions us to reach out to all people. May our Triune God strengthen us to be His witness to all people and let His Gospel light shine.
