Written on your heart

12 For all who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. 13 For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. 14 For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them 16 on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.
Romans 2:12-16

Written on your heart

The Law condemns. It teaches us that we cannot save ourselves. It is revealed to us in two ways. The first is near and dear to us all. God writes it upon our heart. There is not a human spared. Every heart bears the weighty words of command and requirement. Every man is under the weight of the Law. The other way God gives us the Law is in the Holy Scriptures. He preaches it to us, declares it to our ears, and settles it upon our hearts by way of our head. If we cannot save ourselves, what can we do? We must receive the great Good News of Jesus Christ. His cross saves us from our law breaking, God despising, heart. He takes out the heart of stone and unbelief and gives us instead, a heart of flesh, a heart that is a temple to the Holy Spirit. He gives us faith in him and fruit from the Spirit. God buys us back from our Law breaking ways and saves us from death.
