The Law

Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.
Romans 3:19-20

The Law
No matter our background, where we came from, or how we were raised, we all seek at some level to justify ourselves before God. Everyone knows God’s Law. Whether it is the pagan who knows it through the natural knowledge of the Law, written on his heart, or the Christian who also has the revealed knowledge of God’s Law through the holy Scriptures, we all attempt to claim a righteousness that is not ours. And by doing so, we are all condemned. We have all sinned and fallen short of God’s perfect standard. We have no righteousness on our own. This creates a desperate situation for us all. We are helpless and hopeless by ourselves. So if righteousness and salvation cannot come from us, it has to come from outside of ourselves. And thanks be to God that when we look to the cross, we can see where our salvation and righteousness come from. In Christ Jesus, who suffered our death and in exchange gave us His righteousness, we are saved. The Holy Spirit-given faith opens our hearts and minds to this truth and so places us under the cross of Christ, where He fulfilled the Law perfectly for us so that we might have salvation.
