All Are Equal

But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it—the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

All Are Equal
Just in case you were to start to think too highly of yourself, to begin to believe that you were, in fact, upholding God’s Law, at least to some degree to merit salvation, St. Paul’s Holy Spirit-given words here should dispel you of any such notion. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” And in this sense, we are all equal. We are alike in our corruption and fallenness. But St. Paul does not leave it here; he goes on to give the hope that is only found in Christ Jesus. All humanity has also been redeemed by Christ. Sinners may draw distinctions between people, but God does not. He would save us all through Christ. May we constantly remember this and to our Lord Jesus Christ, Redeemer of the world, give Him thanks for His salvation, and may He ever empower us to share His gift with others.
