Life and Peace
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

Life and Peace
Since the Fall, our minds, bodies, and souls have been set against God. We want nothing to do with Him. Instead, we set our “minds on the things of the flesh,” as St. Paul writes here. And the consequence of our actions is death. Thanks be to God, however, that He sent His Holy Spirit to prick our hearts and turn them from the things of the flesh to the things of the Spirit. Now regenerated through the water and the Word, our minds are turned from chaos and death to life and peace. A life and peace found only at the foot of the cross made new in the blood of the Lamb.
