Living Sacrifices
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Living Sacrifices
These words here from Paul would be wise to keep in mind as we continue through the rest of his letter to the Romans. He urges us to present ourselves as living sacrifices because it is the proper response to all that God has done, as Paul says, “the mercies of God.” On this side of heaven, we are not fully renewed, we are still broken and marred by sin. As a result, the appeals that Paul will make going forward show us that we still sin and fall short. But that is not the only purpose of this section; it is a guide for Christian living. God has shown us His undeserved mercies in Christ. God has transformed our lives in Baptism and continues to renew us daily by His Spirit. God has changed everything for us by the Cross. May we always give thanks to our heavenly Father for His mercies in Jesus Christ and for the transforming work He began in our Baptism. May He empower us by His Spirit to present our bodies as living sacrifices of worship acceptable to Him in Jesus Christ.
