Elijah Has Come

And as they were coming down the mountain, he charged them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Son of Man had risen from the dead. So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what this rising from the dead might mean. And they asked him, “Why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?” And he said to them, “Elijah does come first to restore all things. And how is it written of the Son of Man that he should suffer many things and be treated with contempt? But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written of him.”
Mark 9:9–13

Elijah Has Come

There is one that prepares the way for the Lord. The promised prophet of old has come to make the crooked roads straight for Jesus. He came preaching and baptizing that you all would know the One that comes to be crucified. He baptized with water to make way for the One who baptizes with the Spirit. John came and Herod did to him as he pleased. Jesus came, but Jesus laid down his life for you. He picked it up again. This is the Word that is preached to you in the pulpits of the church. This is the Word that is included in the Sacraments for our forgiveness and life. This is Jesus and his is your Savior.
