Welcoming the Little Ones
And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.

Welcoming the Little Ones
This account in Mark is the key to the chapter, showing us that salvation is a gift of grace through faith in Jesus Christ. We see Jesus' tender heart towards children. The disciples, perhaps thinking they were protecting their Master from unnecessary distractions, rebuked those bringing children to Him. Yet, Jesus' response was swift and clear: “Let the little children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God”. He took the children in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them. These words remind us of the simple, trusting faith that children possess, which Jesus holds up as an example for all believers. It’s a call to humility and reliance on God’s grace rather than our own merits. We recognize in this moment the importance of Baptism, where even the youngest are brought to Jesus, receiving His blessing and grace. Let us strive to welcome and nurture this childlike faith in our hearts, trusting in Jesus' loving embrace and His promise of the kingdom to all who come to Him through faith.
