Knowledge and Love at the Cross

8 Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that “all of us possess knowledge.” This “knowledge” puffs up, but love builds up. 2 If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know. 3 But if anyone loves God, he is known by God.

Knowledge and Love at the Cross
"Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up" (1 Corinthians 8:1). In this passage, Paul reminds us that our Christian life is not about showing off how much we know. Instead, it’s rooted in love, centered on the cross of Christ. While knowledge is important, it is love that truly reflects the heart of our Savior. Christ's death on the cross wasn’t a display of superiority but a profound act of sacrificial love. When we’re tempted to pride ourselves on our understanding or spiritual insights, the cross calls us back to humility. As Paul says, "If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know" (v. 2). True knowledge comes when we know God and live in His love, shown in Jesus' death and resurrection. In Christ, we are loved, and in His love, we are called to build up others.
