12 After this he went down to Capernaum, with his mother and his brothers and his disciples, and they stayed there for a few days. 13 The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

A Zeal for His House
Here we see Jesus journeying to Jerusalem for the Passover. This was no ordinary trip; it was a deliberate step toward the cross. Jesus, the true Passover Lamb, came to His Father’s house to cleanse it, because zeal for His Father’s house consumed Him. Jesus’ actions show His divine authority and His holy passion to purify worship. How easily our own hearts become marketplaces, filled with distractions, cluttered with idols of self and worldliness. Yet Christ came not only to cleanse the temple in Jerusalem but to make your heart His dwelling through His Word and Sacraments. On the cross, He bore all your unholy clutter, cleansing you by His blood. Now, baptized into His death and resurrection, your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. May His zeal stir in you a love for His Word and worship, until you dwell forever in His Father’s house.
