The Wind

7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
John 3:7-8

The Wind

The work of the Holy Spirit is mysterious. However, we know that he binds himself to the Word of God. To be born again means that the Word of God is placed upon you. This Holy Spirit swoops in and combines the Word and command of God to plain, ordinary water. Instead of just splashing around in ordinary water, now the Holy Spirit makes it a new birth and a washing of renewal and regeneration. This is the work of the Holy Spirit: he calls you by the Gospel, enlightens you by his gifts, and sanctifies and keeps you in the true faith. All this he does with plain ordinary things and yet extraordinary things take place. The Spirit, who binds himself to the Word, binds himself to you as he makes your heart his temple and habitation.
